My name is Michelle Martin (pronouns she/her/hers) and I graduated with a Masters of Counselling with specialization in Art Therapy from Athabasca University and the Vancouver Art Therapy Institute in 2019. Before becoming a therapist, I completed my undergrad degree in Counselling and Human Development, Psychology and History at Simon Fraser University, an Associates degree in Family Studies from Langara College, as well as an Expressive Arts Certificate from Fleming College Haliburton. I recently completed a year-long professional Compassionate Inquiry course with Gabor Mate and am currently training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy.
I take an eclectic and client-centred approach to working with clients where they are at, drawing from trauma and attachment informed research and practice as well as incorporating mindfulness, compassion and creativity into sessions. I have experience working with a variety of clients in both group and individual sessions including men, women, children, adolescents, and youth and provide ally centred approaches with 2SLGBTQIA+ and BIPOC individuals.

I am graduate from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 2020 and am currently finishing my Master’s in Counselling Psychology from Athabasca University. My areas of interest relate to trauma, anxiety, abuse, depression, and grief and I work from trauma-informed lens. I utilize a Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) approach to aid in emotion regulation and relational challenges as well as other modalities that fit with the client’s goals of wellbeing. I have experience with issues such as trauma, abuse, anxiety, depression, immigration, eating disturbances, self-esteem, and addictions and have experience supporting many individuals with diverse identities, including those from the BIPOC communities.
